Hello Again! and ACOWAR

Image result for acowar

I feel so bad I’ve been so MIA; this semester has really destroyed and exhausted me. But now that I’m going into the last week of the semester, I am sooooooo excited to start reading for fun again!!

To start up my reading again, I picked up A Breath of Snow and Ashes, by Diana Gabaldon because I’m really eager to get back into the Outlander world again, but HELLO!!! It’s May, and that means A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas, A.K.A., a book I’ve been waiting a YEAR for, was released on May 2, so I had to put Gabaldon down immediately. I’m only a couple chapters into ACOWAR, but I am so ready to be destroyed by this book. It’s the last book in the series (though Maas mentioned she’ll be writing more books set in the Prythian world, thank God), so I’m excited to see how everything wraps up with these beloved characters.

If you haven’t read anything by Sarah J. Maas or have never read the ACOTAR (A Court of Thorns and Roses) series, GO READ NOW! She has amazing high-fantasy novels that will immerse you in their worlds and connect you so deeply with their characters. Plus, the fan art for both of her series are AMAZING.

I’m glad to be back on here, and I hope to be A LOT more active from now on.

Newfound Love: Caitlin Moran

Due to a book hangover, I found myself standing in front of my bookshelves, completely clueless on what to read next. I experienced the most intense Sarah J. Maas bender, reading a whopping 5 of her books in a matter of two or three weeks (if that). However, after that bender, I found myself wanting to read more adult novels since it’s been quite a while since I’d read one. So, I narrowed my intense focus to the shelves specifically dedicated to the adult novels I own. A green spine with script reminiscent of The Bell Jar, by Sylvia Plath jumped out at me.

My decision was made.

That was three days ago, and since then I have been blasting through How to Build a Girl, by Caitlin Moran with quiet enthusiasm, whilst binge-watching every interview of the author. Her writing is hilarious and witty and so completely entertaining, I haven’t been able to put her book down. I’m already planning on ordering her other non-fiction books: How to Be a Woman and Moranthology within the next couple of days.

If you haven’t read anything from her, I suggest going and picking up one of her books, especially How to Build a Girl. I guarantee you’ll be laughing and falling in love with the quirky teenage heroine, Johanna Morrigan.

Happy Reading!

Reading Update: Sarah J. Maas Will be the Death of Me

My baby for the next few hours before work. SJM kills me with her stories. 😩💕
#sjm #tog #queenofshadows #currentlyreading #bibliophile #books #bookstagram #bookrecs #read #reading #book #booklover #bookworm #throneofglass #slay #rowaelin #love

I think I have come to the point where it’s safe to say that Sarah J. Maas is going to kill me. Her stories are so immersive, and I’ve been completely lazy and unproductive the past two weeks as I’ve been devouring Heir of Fire and now Queen of Shadows.

I CAN’T GET ENOUGH

And honestly…

Rowan.

That is all.

I’ve fallen completely in love with the Throne of Glass series. It took me a while to jump onto the wagon of this fandom, and I still wasn’t sure after the first book, but OMG I’m in love now.

Most have read this series, and most agree and understand how much I’ve been dying these past weeks. But if you haven’t read this series, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! GO TO THE BOOKSTORE RIGHT NOW.

I feel like I’m so completely wrapped up in this story that I don’t want anything to do with my reality at the moment (aside from my lovely husband, of course). I’m constantly thinking about the story and the characters, even when I’m not actively reading the book. I can’t recommend this series enough. SJM really knows how to weave an intricate and enthralling tale. She does it in the Throne of Glass series and one my all-time favorites, the A Court of Thorns and Roses series.

READ THEM NOW!

Okay, I’m going to get back to reading now!

Reading Update: A Torch Against the Night

Image result for an ember in the ashes series

The only regret I have is waiting so long to read this book. I read the preceding book, An Ember in the Ashes, back in August and fell in love with this world. It was a happy coincidence that I finished that days before A Torch Against the Night was released. But other books seemed to take precedence, so it’s only now that I am finally getting around to reading it!

So far, I’m really liking the sequel. I love how it begins right where An Ember left off, and from there, it’s constantly fast-paced. The stakes are higher than the first, but I don’t want to say anything that will spoil it. I love the characters, and the readers get to see the story from Helene’s point of view, which adds to the textuality and flavor of the book and its world.

I’m only halfway through, but I’m dying to see how Laia and Elias’s relationship develops. Without spoiling anything, I will say that their relationship is much closer in this book and their circumstances force them to work and grow together. However, events may be detrimental to that growth. I don’t know where it’s headed, but I’m personally loving hearing it from both of their perspectives.

If you haven’t read An Ember in the Ashes, I encourage you to do so because it’s a brilliant book that builds such a vast and detailed world. Then, you can read A Torch Against the Night, and talk with me about it!

If you have read either or both books, let me know your thoughts and feelings! I’d love to discuss with you guys in the comments below!

Reading Update: Crown of Midnight

Image result for crown of midnight

I finally finished Crown of Midnight, by Sarah J. Maas. I had to take a little break from reading because I had to start another book for university. But now that it’s Thanksgiving break, I actually have an opportunity to get to the things I’ve been wanting to do like finish this book! As much as I love this world and the many different characters,  Celaena really started to irritate me in this book.

Without giving away any spoilers, Celaena goes through something that makes her question whether she can trust certain people, and I just felt like at a certain point it just started getting old. The way she thinks sometimes and the things that she does are the types of things that makes the audience say, “no, don’t go in there. Don’t do that. Nooooo!!” It’s like come on, girl listen reason.

Despite these reservations, I did really enjoy that the plot is thickening and building up the conflict concerning the queen. I look forward to reading Heir of Fire, but I think I’m going to take a break from the Throne of Glass series and read something else.

Overall, I rate this book 3.5 stars.

Speaking of stars, I plan to read These Broken Stars, by Amie Kaufman next!

Reading Update: Throne of Glass

As you know from my previous post, I finally started reading Throne of Glass, by Sarah J. Maas. Let me just tell you that I am absolutely loving this book!

For the longest time (over a year and a half now), I have owned but avoided reading this book because I was intimidated by the high fantasy genre of it. I think the main thing was that there seemed to be so many characters whose names no one can seem to pronounce.

Despite all of these fears, I am so upset with myself for not picking up this series sooner.

I love Caelena’s story and her mysterious past that we don’t fully know yet. And I really can’t make up my mind between Dorian and Chaol. I love them both, so I have no idea who I want her to end up with. But I’ve heard so many spoilers through BookTube that I think I already know the answer…

Anyway, I just wanted to give an update and let you guys know that I am completely loving this first book. I have about 60 pages left, but I will go ahead and say that I definitely recommend reading this book!

Reading Update: Farewell, Reading Slump.

Image result for images.google.com throne of glass

One of the most popular YA fantasy series is Throne of Glass, by Sarah J. Maas. Unfortunately, I haven’t even begun this series yet.

Until now.

I recently went to a Goodwill Bookstore, and found the first three books of the series ! I only bought the 2nd and 3rd installments because I already owned the first one. But finding the sequels really motivated me to finally pick up Throne of Glass. So I have, and so far I’m really liking it. It’s cool because I also started re-watching Reign on Netflix because I love that show, and Throne of Glass has that “royal court” vibe to it that really coincided to what I was watching. So it’s awesome and ideal that it’s totally fitting the reading/consuming mood that I am in.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been reading anything from my October TBR that I posted earlier this month. I hit a mini slump. I started 11/22/63, by Stephen King, but it wasn’t that captivating for me

I hope all of you are surviving the week and enjoying whatever books you are reading at the moment.

Happy Reading!
